On Monday (Pentecost day in the NL - another holiday), I headed to a new area of Paris, St. Sulpice and spent all day in the area before I had to catch a train back to the NL from Gare du Nord.
The Sorbonne - the Oxford/Cambridge/Harvard/Yale/Princeton of the French
Up close to the Sorbonne - I just felt smarter standing next to it. Unfortunately, you can't tour.
I then headed to the Pantheon and took the tour (ceiling shot above)
The Pantheon is the French Westminster - everyone who is anyone is buried there. Voltaire above
Creepy shot of the crypt
Victor Hugo - in line with my Les Mis theme (and Alexandre Dumas)
Louis Braille
After the crypt, it was enjoying the impressive dome and the art in the former church, now state meeting hall
Dome is currently under renovation (along with the floors). The cover is intended to project that the Pantheon is not just a government owned property - it's the people's palace.
View of Eiffel from Pantheon
Luxembourg gardens - what a wonderful place to relax with a book. Beautifully kept and café/picnic spots everywhere.
Ah Paris, you never fail to make me smile.
I caught the afternoon train back to The Hague - what an easy and beautiful weekend!
