Today started off with the hotel included breakfast, which I usually think is a scam. 8 euros for a buffet of bread and butter...however, this time it was so worth it. Convenient and good. We finished off Nuremberg early by going to St Lawrence church in the center and enjoying the rebuilt Lutheran church after WWII destroyed it. I got a little artsy with my camera as you can see below. Following one last spin around the old town, we got in the car for Salzburg, which is a 3.5 hour drive from Nuremberg, all on the autobahn. I love the autobahn....and no incidents with the car today, so life was perfect today.
After checking in the hotel (hotel has stream right next to it!), we caught the bus to the old town in Salzburg. The first order of business was to book the sound of music tour for tomorrow, which we got a discount on because of Mr. Steves. We then walked along the river to the old town and found a great little restaurant for our first Austrian beer and culinary experience.
After that it was just lazy wandering through the old town, highlighted by seeing the Dom (cathedral) and hearing the bells for mass and the glockenspiel. We then found out that it was choir night in the town and all of the different churches and some of the outdoor sights had live music. We hit 3 different concerts, highlighted by listening to a choir sing in Mozartplatz. After that, we headed to Mirabell gardens and heard a brass band play there. Culture? Check!
