Hup, Holland, Hup! Queen's day weekend!
I feel like I keep writing about the best weekend I've had to date here. It's such a blessing to have each weekend top the next!!!
So Thursday night began the party here in the Hague. Last week was a bit stressful at work, but that was compensated for by Thursday night drinks with friends. We rode our bikes down to the beach, successfully finished some work in the bar and then went to a piano bar where I felt pretty good and got some dancing in! It was really fun. The bike ride back was a bit challenging, but after one slow motion tip over, no problems after that.
On Friday, I had dinner with 3 friends which was great fun. Good food, great conversation. After a late night, it was nice to have a quiet night in.
On Saturday, I picked up A&A from the airport!!!! We first dropped their stuff off at the apartment and then went to Amsterdam to see the sites. We found lunch on one of the squares and then took a canal boat tour. We also made a side trip down the red light district.....shady! Not a fan at all. Amsterdam was in full Orange for Queen's day which was really cool see. We did dinner that night with 2 friends from work - I cooked fajitas because the As brought tortillas from Pappasitos! What a treat....if you are coming from Houston...hint, hint, that's a great idea. We did a fajita buffet and had a lot of fun watching the As get progressively more tired :)
On Sunday, I picked up R&F from the airport from the Kenya trip. I haven't mentioned it, but I was really sad that I couldn't go again this month to Kenya. It was so great to have them here. We first went to church, which was wonderful to have people to go with. After that, we grabbed a picnic lunch and proceeded to the tulips and Keukenhof. There were a lot more flowers open this time, which was great. It was also one of the most beautiful days I've seen to date here in Holland. I planned that :) Oh and I found a new beach town to grab a meal on the beach! Really fun day.
On Monday, I had to work - it was a long day. After getting off, I grabbed dinner with 2 friends and then headed out to see the Queen's night celebration. The crowds were huge!!! No pictures (I can't believe I forgot my camera!!!)
On Tuesday, I spent the Queen's day with R&F. Here are some pictures from the coronation that we watched in Delft:
I have a King now! Never thought I'd live in a country with a king. Really neat to experience history. Delft was also very orange:
People everywhere!!! It was really fun, but also a bit overwhelming. I'm still not used to all of the crowds for festivals....must be some sort of phobia I'm still figuring out how to deal with.
I'll write more later on Queen's day, but wanted to get my pictures up now.
The parents just got here - I'm headed to the airport to get A&A after their secret trip to a secret location. More on that later!!! We are headed to Keukenhof tomorrow and then Friday begins the biggest road trip I've ever done (outside of Workcamp). Thank goodness it's not a Ryder truck driving across Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. About to find out what Faith and the little Prius that could can do! I'm going to try to post a few things every night assuming we can find internet, so stay tuned!!!
